Tracking Business Mileage Made Easy

Are you still manually tracking your business mileage? If so, it might be a good time to consider a time-saving apps to take this on. Or, maybe you are no longer carpooling due to COVID and are looking for a simple way to track your business trips.

The biggest benefit of using a mileage app is the auto-track feature for your phone. Some apps give you the option of setting work hours and only tracking mileage during that time. Most apps have also integrated the swipe feature for categorizing between personal and business trips.

Do you already have access to a free mileage tracker?

QuickBooks Online now offers a mileage tracker on all subscription levels.  In the past, they only offered it within the Self-Employed subscription level.  It has an auto-tracking option, but doesn’t allow you to set work hours.  Categorizing trips is easy, just swipe right for personal and left for business.  Your trips are automatically recorded for you, taking another task off of your plate.

Microsoft 365 members can utilize MileIQ.  This is a great app that I happen to use.  Simply set your work hours so that it only records trips during those hours.  Categorize trips by swiping left for personal and right for business.  They also have monthly reports that are automatically emailed to you.  The app categorizes your business mileage reimbursement amount, which can simply be recorded in your accounting software.  If you don’t have a Microsoft 365 subscription, this app is also available for a monthly fee.

There are other mileage apps that you can purchase, such as Trip Log, Everlance, MileageWise, and countless more.  Current technology has made using automated mileage trackers so simple that you will wonder why you waited so long to use one!
