Searching for a worthy charity to help this holiday season?  Here are some helpful tips:

Stick to groups with clearly stated missions and goals.  A quick website scan should tell you what that organization does – if not aligned with your donation goal, move on.

Use online tools to review charities and causes.  A slew of ratings websites such as GuideStar and Philanthropedia provide reviews and organization financial information.

Be wary of charities that make unsolicited phone calls for donations if the organizations are ones that you are not familiar with.
