Have You Been to the Movies Lately?

One of the top movies in the country, Star Trek, came out not long after the IRS parody was released. The IRS spent over $60,000, back in 2010, creating both Star Trek and Gilligan’s Island spoofs for training videos. While the IRS claims their training videos save $1.5 million a year, they now regret making the six minute Star Trek video. Many believe the video to be a waste of taxpayer dollars and resources. Now, due to across-the-board budget cuts, the IRS has declared furloughs to save taxpayer dollars. Currently, the IRS has declared five furlough days although one, May 24, has already passed. The IRS may declare one or two more in August or September. If you need to contact an IRS office, or need your accountant to get in touch with them, their offices will be closed on the following days during 2013: June 14, July 5, July 22, and August 30.
