Accounting Firms Merge

The Rutland accounting firm Siliski & Buzzell recently completed a merger with Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs, a Williston-based CPA firm.
Operating under the banner of Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs, the firms’ newly expanded team will continue to operate from its existing offices located in Rutland and Chittenden counties. Robert E. Buzzell Jr. will continue to manage the Rutland office, which will be known as Siliski & Buzzell, a division of Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs.
John W. Davis founded the firm in 1990 when the economy was in the midst of an economic downturn. Davis previously worked in firms in the Burlington metro area and saw that the accounting industry was largely one of historical reporting and tax preparation versus a more proactive and strategic approach. He founded his practice with the objective to focus on budgeting and planning. In 2005, Bret Hodgdon, CPA, was admitted as a partner to the firm. In 2006, the firm was renamed Davis & Hodgdon Associates. Hodgdon leads the audit and accounting department and leads all financial statement engagements.
Buzzell opened the CPA practice Siliski & Buzzell in 1978 along with his two co-founding partners, Frank Murphy and Joe Siliski. Murphy now owns an unrelated business in the Manchester, New Hampshire, area; Siliski passed away in 1996.
Both firms have been serving the Vermont business community for over 25 years and developing strong foundations that will enable combined strategic growth. “This merger represents significant opportunities for everyone,” Buzzell, Jr. stated in a release announcing the merger. “Our clients will benefit from an extensive menu of services being offered locally as well as the added technical support.”
John W. Davis agreed, adding, “There is a great commonality with regard to the belief our firms have in serving our clients. We are always seeking the best ways to bring value to the table. Widening our range of services and expanding our talent pool is the most beneficial way to do just that.”
